One subscription is almost always designed for several devices. Let's look at how this works and where the boundaries lie.
The short answer
Yes. A subscription is access to the service, not a tie to a single device. The limit is usually on the number of simultaneous connections: you can install the app anywhere, but only a set number will run at the same time.
What the device limit means
It's a counter of active connections, not installations. If the limit is three, you can install the app on a laptop, a work computer, a phone, a tablet, and a TV. It's just that no more than three will be connected at any one moment.
With VolnaLink, one subscription lets you connect up to 3 devices simultaneously on any supported platform. If you need more, additional slots can be purchased in your account dashboard.
Does a browser extension count as a separate device
An extension is a separate connection, so yes, it takes up a slot. The difference lies elsewhere: the app routes all of the device's traffic through the tunnel, while the extension routes only what goes through the browser. Games, messengers, and system services stay outside the tunnel.
How to connect your whole home network
Instead of installing the client on every device, you set up the VPN on the router. Then all of your home network's traffic goes through the tunnel, and the router takes up a single slot. This is how you connect TVs, consoles, and smart devices that can't have the app installed.
Test it on your own device
8 hours free, no card required. Full access to all servers.
With VolnaLink this is supported on routers running OpenWrt — the setup is manual, and there's a separate page for it.
What happens if you exceed the limit
Usually a new connection either won't be established or pushes out the oldest one — it depends on the service. Just disconnect the VPN on a device you're not currently using.
Can you share a subscription with family
Technically, a multi-device subscription doesn't prevent it: for the service, the difference between «my three devices» and «mine, my wife's, and my child's» is small. The practical limitations: everyone connects through one account, the simultaneous connection limit is shared, and it's worth reading the terms of use — they differ from service to service.
Different countries on different devices
Yes, the location is chosen on each device independently. Your laptop can be in one country, your phone in another, your TV in a third — this is a normal scenario and doesn't break the limit.
