VolnaLink VPN

VPN for Discord

People install a VPN for Discord when voice keeps dropping, latency is high, screen share comes through in pieces, or the client will not let them into a voice channel. Discord more often lives as a program on your computer, not as a browser tab. A VPN extension covers Chrome and Firefox — the desktop Discord meanwhile goes around it, as if there were no VPN.

What exactly breaks

What you seeMost likelyWhat to do
There is text in the chat but no voice / "RTC connecting"Voice UDP is being throttled or goes outside the tunnelA system-wide app, a different country
The discord.com tab works better than the programYou only have the extension installedVPN for Windows or VPN for PC
Voice drops after 10–20 secondsThe server is far away or the route is poorA location closer to you or to the guild's server

Why an extension does not save voice

The desktop Discord is a separate program. VPN for browser and VPN for Chrome cover tabs. Voice, screen sharing, and files from the client take a different route. For that you need the app on Windows, macOS, or Linux.

The web version of Discord in a tab can go through the extension. If you are in both the program and the tab, install the system client so you do not have to guess which traffic goes where.

Voice, guild, phone

Choose a location closer to you or to the server's voice region. Connect, then rejoin the channel: the old RTC connection may have stayed on the direct route. If voice still drops — a different country, not ten clicks on the same node.

On a phone you need the Android or iOS client, the same account. A phone will not be covered by an extension on your computer.

What to check

  1. Does Discord open without the VPN? If there is no internet at all — fix the network first, not the VPN.
  2. The VolnaLink app is installed, not just the extension.
  3. The IP on the check is the country you chose.
  4. Leave the voice channel and rejoin it after connecting.
  5. Turn off a second VPN, Hamachi, and "game boosters".
  6. Change the location. One route may break voice, a neighboring one may not.

How to turn on a VPN for Discord

  1. A VolnaLink account — 8 hours with no card.
  2. The app on PC or phone from the devices page.
  3. Connect, then Discord as usual. Join the channel once the VPN is on.

Buy VPN — the same plans as for YouTube and ChatGPT. There is no separate "voice plan". Up to 3 devices at once, and you can add more in your account.
