Beeline has both mobile service and home internet. Troubleshooting a VPN problem should start precisely with the question "on which connection" — the answer determines where to look next.
Short answer
On mobile internet, the first thing to do is change the location in the app. On home internet, check the router: filtering, custom DNS, and a second VPN configured on it.
Mobile connection
The specifics here are common to all cellular networks, and they matter more than the brand:
- going online through the operator's shared gateway rather than from a personal external address;
- a smaller packet size compared to a wired connection;
- a base-station change when you move — and the drop of the established session;
- differences between regions within a single network.
The practical takeaway: if the VPN won't come up outdoors but works fine at home, the app has nothing to do with it — it's the difference between networks.
Home internet
On a wired connection the route is stable, and the causes of failures shift toward the equipment in the home:
- A router with filtering or parental controls. The restrictions may be on by default.
- Custom DNS in the router. Site names resolve somewhere other than where the app expects.
- A VPN configured on the router itself. Then the traffic goes through two tunnels at once, and they conflict.
- Old firmware. A rare but real cause of periodic drops.
A quick check: connect the same device to mobile internet. If it works, the issue is in the home network, not the app.
What to try, in order
- Change the location in the app. The most effective action: if a specific server doesn't get through the operator's network, a neighboring one usually does.
- Check the internet without the VPN. Open any site with the VPN turned off. If it doesn't open either, the VPN isn't the issue: you've run out of plan data, there's no signal, or there's a problem on the network side.
- Check the list of VPN profiles in your device settings. A leftover configuration from another service in the system intercepts traffic and looks like a failure of the current app.
- Reconnect instead of waiting. The client may hold a dead connection, thinking it's alive.
- Remove battery-saving and data-saving restrictions for the app — especially on Android.
- Restart the device if the routes are "stuck."
TV, console, and devices without an app
Test it on your device
8 hours free, no card required. Full access to all servers.
On home internet, the task of connecting something the app can't be installed on comes up more often — a TV, a console, smart devices. It's solved by configuring the VPN on the router: then the whole home network goes through the tunnel, and the router takes up one slot of the subscription. With VolnaLink this is supported on routers with OpenWrt.
About VolnaLink
The service isn't tied to an operator: the app works the same on any SIM card and any provider. You can test it free for 8 hours without a bank card.
Why there are no percentages and charts here
You won't find in this article a number of checks, a success rate, or an average connection time. The reason is simple: we haven't measured them yet, and we won't make up such figures — neither about our own service nor about others.
We're preparing our own monitoring separately: exactly how we'll count is described on the page "How we test VPN performance in Russia". Once enough measurements accumulate, the results will appear in the monitoring and in this article in place of this paragraph.
If nothing helped
Write to support — no registration is needed for that. To keep the investigation from dragging on, state right away the operator, city, connection type (mobile or home), app version, and chosen location. With this data the issue is resolved in minutes instead of hours.
